As a Product Manager, I've been lucky to work with a ton of really talented UI/UX designers. Similar to how I learned to code so I could better collaborate with developers, I've also done a lot of self learning in UI/UX design so I can better collaborate with designers.

One project I worked on years ago was a basic app idea called Tandem. The idea behind it was simple: the current gig economy is booming with services like Uber, Lyft, Doordash, Grubhub, TaskRabbit, etc. and everyone loves the idea of having the opportunity make a little extra money or by having a super flexible full time job.

At the time I was thinking about this, I was working on a product where we wanted, but were lacking, user engagement to better understand their needs and wants. We ended up offering Amazon gift cards and other incentives to get feedback. I wanted to know, is there a better way?

Enter Tandem - have an idea, then test it. The implementation I was going for was a simple survey app that would bias for less overall feedback, for better quality feedback. Typical survey respondents usually earn nothing or very little, and this is okay because companies typically want as many responses as possible. Here, I wanted to flip that a bit - instead of getting a lot of responses, aim for less responses but with a much higher quality by offering better incentives.

Unfortunately, a real app like this isn't super feasible. Surveys aren't really the best way to get info, and ultimately it wouldn't be difficult to abuse this system - even with complex ML/AI algorithms to catch ne'er-do-wells. But, the idea served as a good point of exploration for me.

Unfortunately, I've lost a lot of assets originally created for this, including wireframes and hand-drawn sketches (iPad). (There's a flash drive sitting in a landfill somewhere with some really cool stuff on it...). Here are the assets I have left:

This first set is in a specific style that is more modern, clean and typical of mobile applications.

Primary home screen that displays a list of surveys that fit you. A prompt to connect your account to LinkedIn, so your professional history can better match you with surveys.

Based on previous surveys and your quality feedback, survey providers could invite you to new surveys they've created.

An option for users to follow specific survey providers so they can know when a survey for that provider is available.

Basic account settings, including what payment account you have connected to receive your survey rewards.

This second set also has a modern design, but one that is a bit more unique.

The primary home screen with a list of all the surveys that match you. Basic information about how much you've earned over time, total active surveys, and survey info so you can decide if you want to join.

A list of survey providers you follow or that follow you. A pill shaped toggle acts as tabs to switch the user between following and followers.

Based on previous surveys and your quality feedback, survey providers could invite you to new surveys they've created.

Notifications provide an easy place you to see updates from all of the your followers or those you are following.

Probably needs to some copy editing 😂. Before joining a survey just reminding the user to provide genuine and thoughtful feedback, otherwise their responses (and reward) might be discarded.
